Our commitment to cocoa

We are proud of the chocolate we use in our products and to make sure it respects high standards of quality and sustainability we have set up our Cocoa Farming Program. It’s a sustainable strategy to guarantee respect for the resources of the planet, transparency in our supply chain, and fair working conditions for farmers. The initiative guarantees us direct access to quality cocoa and supports cooperatives of farmers in Ecuador and the Ivory Coast. Different in terms of terrain, climate, and social customs, the two countries provide two different varieties of cocoa beans, both of which are essential for creating the subtle refinement of our chocolates.

Ecuador

We have set up a project in the province of Manabì together with Maquita and the fair trade organization Altromercato. The focus is to provide our farmers with sustainable trade opportunities. Certified by the ICCO (International Cocoa Organization), Ecuadorian “fine flavor” cocoa has a floral aroma with a mellow, fruity bouquet, for authentic connoisseurs. Ecuadorian fermentation of the beans is one of the finest in the world, and the quality of the cocoa it produces is very high, which is why it is called “fine flavor”.

Local communities

Together with our partners we support local development through multiple sustainability projects in Cote D'Ivoire. On the one part, courses are offered which allow farmers to learn about agricultural techniques aimed at improving cultivation and quality as well as about a lawful use of fertilizers or the composting of natural fertilizers.
A second crucial aspect concerns deforestation and child labor, both of which represent a major issue in the country. A monitoring program traces keeps track of farmers' activities, allowing us to ensure that our cocoa beans do not originate from deforested regions. A further monitoring program carried out locally focuses on preventing child labor.
