100 Years of Loacker: A Story of Excellence and Commitment to the Future

Bolzano, April 5, 2025 - Loacker, a South Tyrolean company among the world leaders in the wafer and chocolate specialty market, celebrates its 100th birthday. 

An extraordinary milestone that marks a century of passion for quality, innovation, and love for its land of origin, the beloved mountains and the marvellous Sciliar, which have always been the backdrop for the creation of every single recipe. Loacker, with its long confectionery tradition and vision for the future, is a symbol of excellence in Italian production and a symbol of Made in Italy all over the world. With sales in over 110 countries - with a significant presence in North America, the Middle East and Asia - and a global market share of 4.5% according to Euromonitor, the company achieved a group turnover of €459.4 million in 2024.

On the occasion of this important anniversary, the South Tyrolean company has decided to celebrate with a series of events in its home region, the city of Bolzano, involving citizens, institutions, and all enthusiasts, with valuable initiatives for the community and the environment. 

The main celebrations will take place in Bolzano on 5 April, two days after the official date of the company's foundation, with a programme full of activities to honour the brand and its long history, the beating heart of an international success. But the centenary is much more than a single day of celebration. Last February, Loacker welcomed over 700 customers and partners from all over Italy and the rest of the world to Bolzano for two days of festivities and meetings. An impressive initiative to consolidate the collaborative relationships that the company has built up over the years, to celebrate its longest standing partnerships and to showcase the places that host and inspire its activities. 

Such a significant anniversary marks the inauguration of a new path, a brand communication platform that looks to the future: "Goodness is a rebellious choice". A message that sums up both aspects of Loacker: on the one hand, the rebellion against "production shortcuts", to which the company has never succumbed, and on the other hand, the benefits of these choices, which for a century now have been transformed into an unmistakable goodness, always true to itself. 

A Sustainable Future as a Benefit Corporation 

Loacker is taking a decisive step towards a more sustainable and responsible future by officially announcing its status as a Benefit Corporation during a celebration held on its premises. This achievement represents the integration of social and environmental objectives into the company's mission, with the aim of creating a positive impact on people, the environment and the community. The company is also investing in a new Technological Research and Development Centre in Unterinn, which will be a centre for sustainable innovation, with advanced laboratories and spaces dedicated to research. The project will help to strengthen competitiveness and combine progress with environmental responsibility. By becoming a Benefit Corporation and aiming to achieve B Corp certification by 2027, Loacker reaffirms its commitment to a more inclusive and sustainable future, with the intention of continuing to create value for all stakeholders. 

Urban Regeneration Projects 

The company has chosen to celebrate this important milestone with some significant urban regeneration projects, both in its home region and in other Italian cities. Projects that are capable of generating a positive social and environmental impact that is sustainable over time and that puts people at the centre

In the city of Bolzano, 100 trees have been planted along the Talvera Promenade cycle path, a gesture that is not only a tribute to the territory but also a concrete commitment to the environment. At the national level, an agreement has been signed with Legambiente which, in its first year, will see the transformation of Via Sacchini in Milan, a pedestrian area close to some schools. An intervention that will come to life in the coming months and will be repeated in the future to highlight the importance of creating greener and more liveable public spaces for future generations and the entire community. 

The Commemorative Stamp for Loacker's Centenary 

Further recognition for Loacker comes from the issue of a commemorative stamp marking an important milestone in the company's history. This stamp is part of the "Excellences of the Production System and Made in Italy" thematic series, which celebrates Italian companies that stand out for their professional and entrepreneurial skills.

The stamp, with a face value of €1.30, was approved by the Council of Ministers on the proposal of the Minister for Enterprise and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso. It will be issued in a print run of 300,000 copies and distributed through 13,000 post offices throughout Italy. The design celebrates the iconic Loacker wafer, the company's emblematic product, alongside the hazelnuts that enrich the famous Napolitaner cream. In the background, Loacker's centenary logo stands out, a symbol of a company that has been at the forefront of South Tyrolean excellence for 100 years. During the day of 5 April, there will be a Poste Italiane corner in Piazza Walther in Bolzano, where the commemorative stamp can be purchased and a special postcard dedicated to the first 100 years of the company can be sent directly from the event.

A commemorative monograph to mark 100 years of history 

But the great initiatives do not stop there. Loacker is also celebrating its first century with the publication of a commemorative monograph entitled "Che Bontà! Loacker since 1925. 100 years of rebellious choices", published by Hoepli. The book traces the company's 100 years of success, innovation and tradition, recounting its evolution and its deep attachment to its territory. The book, which will be available in Italian bookshops, is a tribute to the dedication that has marked the history of the brand and its founder, a story that testifies to the passion and know-how passed down from generation to generation by the entire Loacker family in Italy and around the world. The monograph is edited by two important figures in Italian journalism, Riccardo Bruno and Biagio D'Angelo, and is enriched by a foreword by three-Michelin-star chef Norbert Niederkofler, who, like Loacker, has always found the inspiration and fundamental values of his cuisine in the mountains of South Tyrol. A precious testimony to Loacker's growth and its contribution to Italian confectionery excellence.

Loacker looks to the future with optimism and determination, aware that the centenary is not only a milestone, but also the beginning of a new phase of growth, innovation and commitment to the well-being of the community and the environment. 

On 5 April, Bolzano will be the stage for an event that will proudly celebrate 100 years of history and success. A piece of history of this wonderful area and of our whole country.
